CAPTAIN SUNBEAM

All I wanted was to flame out
With you
Cruisin through the galaxies
I won’t
Let you down

I wrote these words when I had just been diagnosed with a serious illness 6 years ago. I had a vision that I was traveling deeper and deeper into space as I faced the unknown. In this vision, I was Captain Sunbeam, a renegade space pilot that could transmit messages from deep space back to my family and friends on Earth to let them know that I was fighting, that I wouldn’t let them down… that no matter what happened I would always be echoing back, through the music. I didn’t want to let myself down, either. And I want the same for you.

Lore: This song is an overture to the world and story of Captain Sunbeam. The Captain enters the fray, riding in his legendary ship (the Lovestar) & transmitting his signal across the galaxies. Julian Afterjoy (space lumberjack and his eventual protege) sings the Captain’s praises and the Captain promises that he won’t let Julian down in his mission to save the Lifesun.

COMPASS OF RA

I will not go
Not yet, my love
Gonna stick around

Until the blood runs from out of my mouth
I won't wait for my star to come out
I'll be slowly singing your praises and rejoicing

Waiting to deliver me the fabled Compass of Ra
I won’t let my Sunbeam go out

This song was written about my refusal to go down without a fight, my promise to fight until the last possible moment, when the Compass of Ra would be delivered to me in my final moment of need and my health would be restored. The Compass represents my inner map to restoration - I won’t let my inner light die until I find it.

Lore: The Compass of Ra is the key to restoring the Lifesun. The Captain has been searching for it for a long time, and he cannot let his Sunbeam go out until he acquires it. No more can be said here.

CROWNING JEWEL

In the vast undivided reach
Of the mighty Kingdom of Ra
The boy grew up to wield the light
Of a thousand suns and moons
He didn’t know how to conduct himself
So he fell to a power unseen
And the boy
Fell into a dream

This song was written to pull a loved one out of a bad dream, to remind them who they are, and to remind them that they have the power to create the life they want.

Lore: Captain Sunbeam & Julian’s mission is not going as planned. The gravity of their responsibility seems too big, and they fight to avoid being pulled under the cosmic tide.

TORTUGA

Tortuga! That's where we'll go
Never burned brighter
I've never felt better
Oh my boy, we are never going home
Tortuga! That's where it'll be
We'll find the treasure
We'll live forever
We, will always be free

Conor originally wrote this song as a joke to celebrate the adventures of the greatest pirate of all time, Captain Jack. But we soon realized that it was something more. Tortuga became an epic journey about discovering yourself and finding freedom. It’s about remembering who you are, but knowing that you’re just a tiny speck in the asteroid ocean.

Lore: In the Captain Sunbeam Universe, Tortuga is a moon/smuggled outpost ruled by Angel Vice.

OVERLIGHT ANTHEM

Julian, don’t fade away
More than the moon
More than the sun
I hope you stay

Overlight Anthem was inspired by an intense feeling of helplessness. It catalogues the fall of a loved one into the clutches of disease, while (like Crowning Jewel) attempting to pull them back by reminding them of their light and their power.

Lore: Luther Overlight is Captain Sunbeam’s right hand man, intent on restoring the Lifesun by different means - almighty science. As Julian falls into darkness, Luther works to bring him back.
