Welcome to the world of Captain Sunbeam…
Captain Sunbeam is a prog-punk concept band out of Boston set in an original sci-fi universe. They released their debut album, Captain Sunbeam, Act I: The Compass of Ra, in early 2020. A space opera set in the Galaxy of the Seven Jewels, Sunbeam’s songs capture the heart-rending correspondence between enigmatic Captain Sunbeam and space lumberjack Julian Afterjoy.
The music: A raw, galactic, fuel-injected space-opera with massive choruses and an intricate web of storytelling and lyrical prowess. Drawing inspiration from Coheed and Cambria, Meat Loaf, and Rush, their music encompasses prog, pop, punk, and hard rock. Their latest single, Crowning Jewel, will be followed by a new full-length album titled ‘Songs of Orion’, recorded at Rare Signals in Cambridge, MA with Brian Charles. The band raised over $11K to crowdfund this new album, which will be released in May of 2025. Captain Sunbeam has sold out shows throughout the Boston area and will be touring the North East this spring/summer in support of the album.
The story: The Afterjoy Sequence, a YA fiction trilogy about Julian & Sunbeam’s exploits, is currently in production. In book one, Captain Sunbeam & The Compass of Ra, the inner and outer rims of the galaxy are at war, fighting over limited supplies of Nectar as each planet vies for control and influence in an age where the Lifesun itself has begun to fade. In this epic and hilarious saga, only YOU can save the Seven Jewels from certain destruction, and welcome the return of the creator - Orion. Join forces with Julian Afterjoy, Kimmy Starfossil, the Three Dolphin Princes of Taz-Abalone, and Luther Overlight to uncover the reason behind the Lifesun’s demise. You will trek across the entirety of the Seven Jewels, perhaps even venturing into Deep Space to solve the mystery of the disappearance of Captain Sunbeam and his infamous ship - the Lovestar.
